On The Job: Seth Palm-Rittle, BS '28
Sophomore Seth Palm-Rittle, BS ’28, is applying his Saint Joseph’s skills during a co-op with Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, using data and PowerBI to drive insights while building valuable experience and connections.
Sophomore Seth Palm-RIttle, BS ‘28, a double major in business intelligence and analytics and AI for business, spent 6 months last semester as a co-op for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. The skills he's learned at SJU set an amazing starting point to build on during his role at J&J, where Seth used PowerBI to automate visualizations, created models and visualizations to spur decision making on the brand Tremfya, and more. Most importantly, Seth formed many connections at J&J, and learned invaluable technical and soft skills.
The Role:
Innovative Medicine (IM) Strategic Insights and Analytics (SIA) Co-op working on the brand Tremfya, within the Psoriatic division of Immunology.

The Day-to-Day:
Every day could bring on new challenges, as a lot of my team’s focus was helping the Marketing and Sales teams on their ever changing needs, although the average day included data management, data visualization, lots of 1:1 meetings and chatting with coworkers.
It’s 10 a.m. on a workday, what are you up to?
Probably in a 1:1– I always liked having these personable meetings in the morning. Also, a coffee is probably in my hand.
Go-to snack or drink that gets you through the day:
Everything at J&J is healthy, and everyone runs on coffee. For the sake of saying something different, I’ll say a Coke or Dr. Pepper (always diet at J&J).
Most of the day to day actions that business people make in their careers are industry and company specific things that they had to learn on the job. So, the best way to set yourself up to adjust quickly to your career is learning a strong foundation of technical skills in college.

My “I nailed it” moment:
I was giving my presentation to the VP of SIA (an SJU grad), and when I was showing a PowerBI dashboard I made for Tremfya’s Open Payments data, he asked me to talk to him after the meeting to discuss whether my work could be replicated across all of the J&J brands.
Favorite part of your role:
My team, 1000%. There was a lot of turnover during my time (and multiple maternity leaves), but everyone was kind, helpful, and did everything they could to help me succeed. My favorite times at J&J were walks with team members where we chatted about something other than work.
Fit check:
Either slacks and a blue or pink button down shirt, or a colorful polo with golf pants.
Tips for the next intern:
Know how to communicate and how to learn. Business change and value happens in meetings, and your ability to make connections and express your own worth is the most valuable skill you can have. Who you know and your ability to learn new things is almost always more important than what you already know.
Fun/interesting collaborations, celebrity/influencers meets?
On my second day on the job I got to meet J&J World Head of Mergers and Acquisitions, Nauman Shah. He was super nice, and answered multiple of my questions.
