  • Transfer Credits For Incoming First-Year Students

Overview

Students may transfer credits to Saint Joseph's University through Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs or by earning credits at another accredited college or university or through dual enrollment programs. Students may transfer a maximum of 60 earned college credits.

Official grade reports from the College Board or International Baccalaureate, and/or transcripts from other colleges/universities must be sent to Saint Joseph’s University as soon as possible. No credit will be awarded until your official report is received. For more information, please see the Saint Joseph’s University Transfer Policies Page.

Advanced Placement Credits

Saint Joseph’s University awards credit for Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations as outlined in the Required Score and Equivalency Chart linked below.  Credit is given only upon receipt of an official report from the College Board.  The AP course credit may count toward the 120 credits graduation requirement. A score of 4 or 5 on certain AP exams may fulfill General Education Program (GEP) requirements, as the linked chart indicates.

International Baccalaureate

A minimum score of 5 or higher on High Level IB subject examinations may earn college credit and fulfill degree requirements, as this equivalency chart indicates.

No credit will be considered for Standard Level IB subject examinations.

Saint Joseph's University will not grant credit for both Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate for the same course.

Dual Enrollment/Transfer Credit

Incoming first-year students are able to apply credits earned previously and enter their undergraduate program at Saint Joseph's University with credits. In order for credit to be awarded for a course taken elsewhere, including dual enrollment, Saint Joseph's requires that the course must meet the following criteria:

  • Taken through an accredited college or university
  • Earned 3.00 credit hours or higher, with a grade of “C” or better*

For additional information on the requirements and process to have transfer credits reviewed, please see the Saint Joseph’s University Transfer Policies Page.

Consult the Transfer Equivalency Database to see if the course has been reviewed previously, and if the course has a known equivlancy at SJU.
