Faculty Learning Communities

Faculty learning communities are programs that span the academic year and encourage faculty to engage with evidenced-based pedagogies in a collaborative, supportive, peer-led environment.

  • This is an interdisciplinary writing accountability group, which exists to serve faculty by giving them a weekly block of time to do writing and research activities. Please contact Andrew Peterson and Rachael Sullivan for more information and any questions you may have.

  • The Universal Design in the Classroom Learning community is designed for faculty teaching students enrolled in the PACE program (or others that are interest in the topic). We focus our conversations on Universal Design for Learning in the classroom and the inclusion of students with disabilities in our community. Please contact Cheryl George and Mollie Sheppard for more information and any questions you may have.

  • The Interdisciplinary Faculty and Staff Learning Community is a year-long community created for administrators, faculty, and student-facing staff to learn the different types of collaborative student learning approaches, how they have been implemented within the University, and generate new innovations. Please contact Diane Quinn and Aubrey Wang for more information and any questions you may have.

  • The Inclusive Pedagogy Faculty Learning Community is a year-long community created for faculty to talk about teaching across identity, building a culture of belonging in the classroom and pathways to change toward an inclusive classroom. Please contact Janée Burkhalter and Chris Heasley for more information and any questions you may have.

Summer Faculty Development Seminar

The Office of Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Office of the Provost, co-sponsors the 2023 Summer Faculty Development Seminar designed to assist interested faculty in preparing to teach INT 151: Inequality in American Society. The course, new to Saint Joseph's curriculum, is designed to be a place where students are given productive tools to engage in discussions about racism and equity in the US. Instructors will raise awareness about US inequality and assist students in becoming more thoughtful citizens. Each faculty member who takes this course is expected to begin to offer sections in the following academic year. Once the seminar is complete, faculty will have a completed syllabus, tools for engaging resistance students, and access to an INT 151 lesson plan archive from prior instructors.
