The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to persons involved in the peer-evaluation process at Saint Joseph’s University. This document reflects the requirements outlined in the Faculty Handbook and is designed to facilitate the process and communication between all parties concerned. Everyone involved should also have read through the pertinent sections in the Faculty Handbook.
Faculty Learning Communities
Faculty learning communities are programs that span the academic year and encourage faculty to engage with evidenced-based pedagogies in a collaborative, supportive, peer-led environment.

This is an interdisciplinary writing accountability group, which exists to serve faculty by giving them a weekly block of time to do writing and research activities. Please contact Christina King Smith and David Logerstedt for more information and any questions you may have.

This year-long learning community aims to (a) provide faculty and staff with opportunities to explore universal design, Ignatian pedagogy, and backwards design to reach a wide variety of learners, and (b) invite faculty to revise courses in accordance with best practices for a wide variety of learners. This year-long Community of Practice will formulate practical and ethically grounded guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, research, and learning at SJU. These guidelines will be informed by SJU's core values and will be applicable to faculty, students, and staff. The Annual Teaching and Learning Forum is designed to foster excellence in pedagogy and support a vibrant teaching and learning community. This year’s theme includes collaborating across the University on teaching excellence through technology and teaching students with diverse learning needs

Theme: "Cultivating Critical Thinking and Reflection in the AI Era"
Join us for the 15th Annual Teaching and Learning Forum scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hawk Hill campus. An online option will also be available. This year's forum, themed “Cultivating Critical Thinking and Reflection in the AI Era” will showcase innovative strategies and cutting-edge pedagogical approaches from our community. A more detailed call for presentations will follow along with guidelines for applying for the Leahy and Bright Idea Awards.
