Outreach and Engagement

Green Fund is SJU's primary student organization dedicated to advancing sustainability initiatives on campus. While student-led, Green Fund works with staff and faculty, as well as other student organizations, on projects that drive climate action and reduce the university's environmental footprint. The work of the SJU Community Garden lies at the intersection of sustainability and social justice by providing an intentional and reflective space for the SJU community to come together and promote the Jesuit ideals of appreciation of things both great and small, community engagement, and commitment to service and the environment. All food and herbs grown in the organic, raised-bed garden are donated to local community partners.

The SJU chapter of Sharing Excess works to collect excess food and redistribute to food scarce community members and organizations fighting food hunger. This inclusive organization is open to all, primarily focusing activities on Hawk Hill. Learn more on the SJU Sharing Excess Instagram page.

The SJU student-run chapter of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) aims to align SJU's Haub School of Business with the United Nations principles around responsible management education.

PAR-Recycle Works

PAR-Recycle Works is a West Philadelphia-based non-profit electronics recycler providing transitional employment, job skill training, and permanent job placement to people returning from prison. As an employment social enterprise, PAR-Recycle Works puts people to work. It earns revenue by responsibly recycling discarded, end-of-life electronics for supply partners. By employing  justice-impacted people, returning home from incarceration, PAR strengthens environmentally sustainable communities and families to which our employees are returning. SJU is proud to partner with PAR-Recycle Works for responsible management of our electronic waste.

Narberth Community Food Bank

The Narberth Community Food Bank's mission is to provide essential support to individuals and families facing food insecurity in Narberth Borough and Lower Merion Township. The food bank is operated by a core of dedicated staff and volunteers who value the right of access to healthy food for every community member. Produce grown at the SJU Community Garden is donated to the Narberth Community Food Bank for distribution to community members.

APEX

APEX is an Ignatian alternative spring break service/immersion program. APEX is committed to serving with and for others, while learning about the history, culture, and concerns of the people of the Appalachian region. During the immersion week participants learn, serve, and grow in relationship with the communities in Appalachia. Many of the APEX programs focus on environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and building sustainable communities.
