- Direct all override requests to the Chair - Dr. Jonathan Fingerut. When contacting him, please be sure to provide the course name, time, section #, and CRN.

Department Chair: Dr. Laura Crispin (lcrispin@sju.edu)
Registration Information:
- The department uses electronic Wait lists. They strongly encourage students to use the wait lists. While the wait list does not guarantee a spot in the course, it makes it much more likely. If overrides are granted, they are granted strictly on the order of the wait list, with the exception of graduating seniors who need a specific course to graduate.
- ECN 101 and 102 will use rolling caps in order to reserve seats for each class year. Contact the Chair if you need to request an override into a closed section of ECN 101 or 102. In most cases, it is not possible to increase the course size due to classroom capacity.
- There are online courses (ECN260) that are restricted to nursing students only. The department cannot override this restriction for students in other programs.
- If you are requesting an override for an upper division course (ECN 301 or above) that is full, please request permission from the instructor and cc the department chair. Instructor approval is necessary to be considered for a spot in a closed course, but does not guarantee that you will get a spot in a closed course.
- If you are requesting an override for an upper division course due to pre-requisite restrictions, please contact the department chair.

Fall 2026 Registration Guidelines:
- Rolling caps will be used by the Department - this means that additional seats in each course will be made available before each registration period.
- The Department does not use electronic waitlists for any of their courses.
- Once the course is filled to capacity, only extraordinary circumstances (e.g., a specific section is needed in order to graduate) will be considered for a closed course override. Please contact the chair to request an override if you have an extraordinary circumstance.
- The CCC HIS 100s will be capped at 0 until the summer incoming class registration period. However, if a current first-year student fails their CCC HIS 100s course in the spring semester, they may take it in the fall of their sophomore year. They will need to get an override to be let into the course as the cap will be set at 0.
- For those students who have not taken HIS 154, they will be required to take any upper division history course (201-499) in its place, excluding those that are internship/professional development (for example the HIS 270 Professional Prep Seminar being offered this spring).

Department Contact Information
Students are directed to submit questions/requests to psychsupport@sju.edu. Using this alias will eliminate the need for contacting multiple people in the department. It also will ensure that your question will be answered in a timely fashion. Not using the alias will result in delays in resolving your issue.
The psychsupport@sju.edu alias goes to Dr. Patrick Garrigan (dept chair) and Dr. Shih (advising coordinator). There is no need to cc’ additional people unless you’re cc’ing your PSY advisor.
For Advising Related Questions
Contact your academic advisor first. For more complicated issues that your advisor asks you to follow up with either Dr. Garrigan or Dr. Shih, please use the psychsupport@sju.edu email alias.
General Registration Information
The Department will use rolling caps for some courses - this means that additional seats in each course may be made available before each registration period.
For PSY Majors needing an override
Overrides can be requested, if needed, using this Request Form for Majors.
Special Instructions for Psychology Minors
Please click on the CRN number for the PSY course you’re interested in and check to see if you are eligible to register for it. If a course is restricted to PSY majors only, you will need to request a restriction override. Overrides can be requested using this Request Form for Minors.
Psychology minors should be able to register freely for open in-person sections of 100-level courses as well as PSY 201, 208, and most 200-level PSY electives.

For Criminal Justice majors, a new course (SOC 370: GIS for the Social Sciences) will be reserved only for SOC/CJ majors and will fulfill the “CJ Toolkit” requirement in DegreeWorks. This course is being taught asynchronously by Dr. Haemi Won who earned her PhD in Criminal Justice and who trains police officers and detectives to use Geographic Information System (GIS) software in the New York City Police Department.
Sociology and Criminal Justice minors who are required to take either SOC 312 or SOC 313 are strongly encouraged to enroll in SOC 313. SOC 313 no longer includes SOC 312 as a prerequisite; however all majors should continue to take SOC 312 before enrolling in SOC 313.
