I worked in public radio and television as a news reporter, an investigative documentary producer, and as a freelance television news photographer for foreign media in South Africa. I have also worked as trade union organizer and a librarian.

My research and teaching interests focus on critical communication studies and the the political economy of media. Specifically, my research explores issues of media ownership, diversity of news content, ethnic and immigrant media, and news and visual narrative.
