Graduate Team Challenged in International Ethics Competition

PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 28, 2011) - Students from Saint Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business will compete against students from 25 business schools around the world next month in the Aspen Institute’s 2011 Business & Society International MBA Case Competition. This is the first year the Haub School has been invited to participate in the series of competitive events, which challenge students to explore the significant and positive influence that business can have on society.

“This distinctive case competition challenges students to make decisions at the intersection of corporate profitability and environmental social impact,” explains Nancy McGaw, director of the Aspen Institute’s Center for Business Education. “Seeing how creatively and wisely they wrestle with these complex issues gives us great confidence in the next generation of business leaders.”

John McCall, Ph.D., Saint Joseph’s McShain Chair in Ethics and director of the University’s Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics, is enthusiastic about the school’s inclusion in this year’s competition. “We are so pleased to compete with such impressive business schools — schools that share our commitment to ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainability — on such a prominent stage,” says McCall. “We look forward to seeing the members of our graduate team differentiate themselves by flexing their skills in ethical analysis.”

Finalists will be flown to New York City where they will present to a panel of corporate judges. The first place team will receive $20,000 and $2,000 to donate to a 501(c)(3)-designated charity of their choice.
