PHILADELPHIA (January 26, 2016) — Saint Joseph's University was welcomed into the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute’s University Recognition Program this past November. The undergraduate finance major, offered by the Haub School of Business, has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program.

According to the CFA Institute, this approach positions students to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation, the most recognized investment credential worldwide.

“The mission of the CFA Institute is well aligned with the Jesuit business education that we provide in the finance department of the Haub School,” says Assistant Professor Denver Travis, PhD, CFA, who was instrumental in the University Recognition application process. “Our strong emphasis on ethics along with rigorous industry-specific training produces graduates who are sought by banking institutions, business enterprises, insurance companies and investment companies.”

Through participation in the CFA University Recognition Program, Saint Joseph's is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year. Since November, three of Saint Joseph’s senior finance majors were awarded the CFA Program scholarship.

“Students in these programs study the CBOK, which includes the core knowledge, skills, and abilities identified by practitioners worldwide as essential for successful practice,” says Neil Govier, CFA, Head of University Relations at CFA Institute. “By mastering the fundamentals of the CFA Program as well as the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, these future investment professionals gain a strong foundation that helps prepare them well to join the growing CFA Institute community dedicated to promoting the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.”
