Philadelphia and Beyond

From city vibes to suburban charm, Saint Joseph’s University’s Philadelphia locations have it all. While University City puts you in the heart of the City of Brotherly Love, our Hawk Hill campus offers the best of both worlds with its part-city, part-suburb location.

Get to Know Philadelphia

Philly is more than just cheesesteaks and the Liberty Bell — though we are fans of both. Named the most walkable city in America by USA Today, Philadelphia is an endless treasure trove of activities, shops, historical sites and good eats. Its suburbs are also brimming with charm, from bustling shopping districts to trendy eateries and scenic greenery.

Delight Your Taste Buds

With even more restaurants per capita than New York City, Philadelphia has a place for every palette. Whether you’re headed downtown to try one of the city’s more than 6,000 eateries or out to Suburban Square for dinner and a show at the Ardmore Music Hall, there’s always something new to try.

Get Immersed in the Culture

Ready to soak in the arts and music scene? The Philadelphia Museum of Art is home to upwards of 200,000 pieces of art from around the world, and offers pay-what-you-wish admission every Friday night and first Sunday of the month. Or if you’re not squeamish, take a walk through the Mutter Museum, Philly’s home for medical history and anatomical oddities. Want to catch some tunes in the burbs? Check out the lineup at the Main Line Music Festival.

Step into Nature

Did you know Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park is the largest landscaped urban park in the world? With over 900 miles of trails and 17,000 acres of parkland combined across Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties, there’s plenty of space to relax or recharge. From Clark Park to the Wissahickon, Rittenhouse Square to Suburban Square, you’re never far from a green space.

Bring on the PhanPhare

When you’re not cheering on the Hawks at Hagan Arena, check out one of Philly’s five pro sports teams! Let’s hear it for the Eagles (NFL), Phillies (MLB), 76ers (NBA), Flyers (NHL) and Union (MLS). While we’re at it, can we get a “Go Birds”?

Travel Back in Time

Philly is the birthplace of the United States — and we’ve got the cobble stone streets to prove it. Check out historic classics like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, learn something new at the U.S. Mint and Franklin Institute, or delve into Revolutionary War history at Valley Forge National Historical Park, located just 18 miles west of the city.

Woman holding an ice cream cone

During the weekends, I love to explore ice cream shops and coffee shops in the suburbs near me. My favorite coffee shops are Mamam in Ardmore and Mayday in West Chester. I also love a good ice cream spot - Handel’s is my go-to!

The BEST spot in Philly is John’s Roast Pork. Perfect spot to hit up before a game or if you’re just looking for a phenomenal sandwich. I have so many good memories of John’s before Eagles, Sixers, Flyers and Phillies games, and I have never had a bad sandwich from there. Pro tip: bring a friend when you go … one of you get a cheesesteak and one of you get a roast pork — both of you get half of each to get the full experience.

Some of my favorite memories are at Linvilla Orchards from my childhood to today. There has never been a bad memory made there and it is truly the place to be every season, especially fall!
