Speech-Language Pathology MS
The 57-credit Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) at Saint Joseph’s University prepares students to assess, diagnose and treat a broad range of disorders affecting speech, language, social and cognitive communication and more. With a growing need for skilled speech-language pathologists, this program provides hands-on experience and prepares students to become skilled practitioners in a fast-growing field.
As our population continues to age, conditions like stroke and dementia, which can cause speech or language impairments, will require the expertise of skilled SLPs. At the same time, growing awareness around early childhood development has highlighted the importance of specialized intervention for young children with speech and language disorders.
What Sets Our Program Apart
-
Students complete 400 hours of supervised clinical fieldwork in schools, health care organizations, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and community-based organizations. These placements prepare graduates to work with individuals of all ages in diverse care settings.
-
Reflecting the Jesuit value of cura personalis — care for the whole person — students will have the opportunity to learn interprofessionally alongside peers in education, occupational therapy and physical therapy. The team-based approach mirrors real-life situations and strengthens your ability to deliver holistic, whole-person care.
-
Graduates will be prepared to apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and to meet Pennsylvania’s state licensure requirements, opening doors to careers in healthcare, education, research and private practice.
-
The SLP program is intentionally designed to be the right size – small enough for personal attention but large enough to provide a diverse, supportive peer community. Access to faculty, with individualized guidance and placement support for clinicals is included. A welcoming environment allows students to develop close peer relationships and gives access to faculty who specialize in areas like social work, PT and OT.
