Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that impacts the way certain individuals perceive and socialize with others. Those diagnosed with ASD may have difficulty communicating and interacting with others and exhibit limited or repetitive patterns that impact their ability to function at school, work or other areas of life.

Today, there is a greater understanding of the specific needs of individuals with ASD, driving a need for professionals with expertise in research and best practices related to teaching and caring for them. To meet this expanding need, Saint Joseph’s University offers a four-course Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate that prepares students to assist and empower members of this population.

What Sets Our Program Apart

  • The Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate is designed to meet the needs of educators in the field looking to advance their careers. You can choose to take your courses online, on campus or a combination of both formats.

Our evening classes are small and designed for working professionals. The full curriculum can be completed in as little as two semesters (less than one year) or can be spread out to align with your schedule and goals.

  • The program identifies the social and economic difficulties that families face in coping with autism. Students will demonstrate how to collect behavioral data using Applied Behavior Analysis, a method of therapy used to change or improve specific behaviors.

  • The Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate offers the opportunity to know and understand potential causes, symptoms and diagnostic criteria of autism spectrum disorder. You will understand the unique and specific behavioral needs of individuals with autism, as well as both medical and behavioral approaches to autism treatment and related issues. You will study the ethical guidelines and professional codes of conduct for working with individuals with autism.

  • You will have the opportunity to learn from Saint Joseph's University's renowned Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support, a community-facing organization that provides research and support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness (PK-12) Certificate Certificate School of Education and Human Development

Although research supports social-emotional learning (SEL) programs as a core curriculum component, it's rare for teachers to have the formal training needed to seamlessly help children develop these skills in tandem with academic learning. To prepare for the barriers your students may face and support their growth, you need to add to your own skillset, which is why earning a certificate in Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness (SEBW) of PK-12 students can be so beneficial.
