Welcome to Saint Joseph’s University!
We’re confident that Saint Joseph’s will quickly become a home away from home for your student, and a community you will be proud to take part in. As your student navigates the college experience, there will be exciting moments, challenges, opportunities and a lot of growth. We ask you to partner with us and provide them space to develop independence and grow in confidence and encouragement to pursue their academic, professional and personal goals.
Role of Parents & Families
Parents and families, you have an important role as your student’s coaches and role models. The best way to provide support is by listening to your students, empowering them to take personal responsibility for their academics, relationships, and all aspects of their lives, and guiding them to use the resources available to them at the University.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their education records. For more information related to FERPA at Saint Joseph's University can be found on the Registrar's site.

Getting Involved with SJU
Parents of current and former students are valued partners as Saint Joseph’s continues to deliver on its promise of providing a transformational academic experience. The tradition and passion for service and community that we encourage in our students we have also been able to count on from their parents, who give to their children and SJU in so many ways.
Spirit at Saint Joseph’s University is deeply rooted in a shared community, network of beliefs, and desire to accomplish the greater good. These same qualities describe the special group of parent leaders who serve on the Parents' Leadership Council.
The Career Development Center strives to prepare and empower students and alumni to discern and achieve professional goals throughout their lifetime. Through the development of meaningful and productive relationships with industry and campus partners, we connect students and alumni with experiential and professional opportunities and resources.
The Bellarmine Guild, established in 1940, is a cornerstone of Saint Joseph’s University history. Over the past 80 years, the Bellarmine Guild has expanded their outreach to building The Bellarmine Guild Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance for selected students; to supporting Campus Ministry's local charity efforts; and to educating members on various University and community programs. The Bellarmine Guild is an organization consisting of parents of both current and graduated students, alumni, and friends of the University. Being a Bellarmine Guild member will enable you to establish new parent alliances; support scholarship fundraising and charitable giving efforts; and enjoy special events, informative speakers, and light refreshments with an engaging and philanthropically minded group of University supporters. To see the latest happenings of the Bellarmine Guild, please follow them on Facebook.
Navigating the Transitions
Prospective and Admitted Students
Making their college decision is often a first step toward adulthood for many students. Allow your student to take that step, to try new things, to develop into the amazing person you know they can be. In this period of transition, look to support your student's efforts at independence and celebrate accomplishments together.
Let our admissions counselors help you navigate the college decision process with your student.
Is your student an admitted student? Here are your next step:
All incoming students have a summer "to do" list of items to complete prior to their arrival on Hawk Hill in August. Your student should log-in to The Nest (our student portal) to complete these tasks.
Saint Joseph’s University has a few programs that help students transition to college:
- SJU's Orientation is a two day immersion into the life a student, filled with interactive sessions, meeting other students, and fun activities along with a day of sessions specifically for the parents
- Iñigo First Year Experience creates a sense of belonging for all first year students while exposing them to the time honored ideals of a Jesuit education that are known around the world
- Early Arrival Programs offer opportunities for first year students to arrive to campus a few days before move-in weekend to get acclimated to campus and make friends
- First Year Seminars
- Road Trip
- Day of Service
After several years and countless hours of hard work, studying, and perseverance, it is almost time for the celebration of your student's graduation from Saint Joseph's University to begin. While this is an exciting time for both students and parents alike, there are many logistics to work out and details to take care of.
Please visit the official SJU commencement website for all of the information you need regarding the graduation ceremony.
THWND. Though your student may have left hawk hill, you and your family will always be a part of the Saint Joseph’s University community. Mark your calendar for the annual Hawkfest festivities, continue to cheer on the Hawks, and don’t be a stranger to campus.
