A command of chemistry is at the heart of understanding and mastering other scientific disciplines. A minor in chemistry combined with a major in any other academic pursuit will provide you with a solid foundation in basic chemistry, which will support studies in biology, materials science, geology, medicine, physics and other areas. Your ability to think critically and creatively in your area of specialization will be strengthened.
At Saint Joseph’s, chemistry is emphasized as a laboratory science, and as a minor, you will learn chemical theories as well as current experimental techniques, using modern instrumentation and computational methods to solve chemical problems. The analytical skills obtained in a chemistry minor are useful in any professional field. The chemistry minor involves six courses, including two semesters of both general and organic chemistry.
